Montana posted impressive collegiate and professional statistics, and led his teams to multiple NFL championships. His San Francisco 49ers team won 4 Super Bowls (XVI, XIX, XXIII, and XXIV), and Montana is the only player to win 3 Super Bowl MVP awards. Montana was also the first player in league history to win 2 Associated Press MVP awards, which he did for the 1989 and 1990 seasons. In 1990 he received Sports Illustrated magazine's "Sportsman of the Year" award, and he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000.
